Two Went to Sleep

Two went to sleep
The other lay silently waiting
the other of glistening pools.
into reflections
and where there were seasons
the summer
the other of failure
in their comfort
when it came
to the bitter end.
into the leveling plains
of no pains
or reaching over
Along a bruise or a stain
One hungered
One dreamed of Heaven
One thought of places
One sat staring
the other had no voice.
the springtime,
one dreamed of winter
and all lay quiet
all were still
And when one wandered out
one could cry
The other could speak
Walking away
an arm or a leg
Two went to sleep
One weeped
In the pool of dreams
which lay at their feet
